Our CiboArte event was a huge success with Lilia Carpinelli's outstanding performance being appreciated bye everybody - if you would like to read more, here is what happened.

The New Zealand Italian Festival, in conjunction with Wild Tomato magazine and Academia Barilla, presented Nelson's first ever CiboArte event, featuring Italian Soprano Lilia Carpinelli accompanied by Italian pianist Matteo Napoli.
CiboArte is a celebration of regional Italian food (Cibo) and Italian Opera (Arte). It was an evening of superb Italian opera, and supper prepared by Nelson’s own Accademia Barilla.
Event organized by chef Gabriele Cagnetta and maitre Roberto Arena of La Bella Italia.

About The Performers:
Lilia Carpinelli: Soprano
Italian soprano Lilia Carpinelli is currently based in New Zealand. Following the completion of her music degree at the Salerno Conservatory, Italy, in 2001 at the age of 21, she studied the 'Estill Voice Training System' with Elisa Turla.
In 2000 Lilia won two First Prizes in the 'Giannina Arangi Lombardi' competition in Naples and in the 'Citta' di Mercato Severino' competition in Salerno. The following year she was awarded the First Prize in the 'Idelmo Poggioli' competition in Naples. Ms Carpinelli has sung a great variety of styles and genres. Her operatic roles include Eleonora in Salieri's Prima la musica poi le parole in Vienna with the Orchestra Giovanile di Roma, conducted by Luigi De Filippi, Lulu in Raffaele Viviani's Eden Teatro, with the Trianon Orchestra conducted by Renato Piemontese, at the Trianon Theatre, Naples, as well as O Nino in Manuel de Falla's El retablo de maese Pedro, at the Augusteo Theatre, Salerno.
Other 18th century opera roles were Dirindina in Scarlatti's La Dirindina, with the Nuova Orchestra Scarlatti, at the Garibaldi Theatre, Caserta and the role of Dorilla in Hasse's La Serva Scaltra, with the Labirinto Ensemble conducted by Mariano Patti at the Cilea Theatre, Naples.
Oratorio performances include Rossini's Petit Messe Solemnelle, Mozart's Coronation Mass, Faure's Requiem, Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, Cimarosa's Magnificat, Vivaldi's Gloria and three world premières, Logroscino's Stabat Mater, Paisiello's Requiem and Piccinni's Salmo 'Da te solo in tanti affanni'.
She also performed for the Inauguration of the Olympics Beijing, China in 2005 with the same orchestra and sung with the Orchestra Giovanile di Roma in Austria.
Her most recent engagements included the solos in Rossini's Petit Messe Solennelle and Vivaldi's Gloria with the Auckland Choral Society in Napier and Auckland (Town Hall) and last December she featured prominently in a program entitled 'Vienna Nights' at Telstra Theatre Event Centre with the Manukau Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Uwe Grodd.
Matteo Napoli: pianist
Matteo Napoli, based in Salerno, Italy, is an honours graduate of the Giordano Conservatoire in Foggia. Early in his career, he captured worldwide attention with his success in many competitions, including First Prize in the International Liszt Competition, Lucca, Italy, in 1986.
Over the last twenty years, he has performed as a recitalist throughout Europe, as well as in New York, Mexico City, San Paolo, Japan, Australia, China and Malaysia.
Performing as a soloist, he has appeared with a number of orchestras including:
Orchestra da Camera di Firenze, Brasov Philharmonic, Ofunam Philharmonic Orchestra, Tirana Opera House Orchestra, Cyprus Chamber Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra of Malaysia, Manukau Symphony Orchestra, and Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.
Napoli is frequently called upon to sit on juries for national and international competitions, and in 2002 was appointed Artistic Director of the 'Pianosolo' International Piano Festival in Salerno. Matteo is a Naxos recording artist with 3 CDs for Flute and Piano, recorded together with Uwe Grodd and 3 volumes of Galuppi's sonatas for Piano solo.
